The Swedish Government will once again increase the TAX on smokeless tobacco in Sweden starting 1: st of January 2008. This time they will increase the tax with 90 SEK (about 10 EUR). Note that this only affects you who live within the European Union. As the tax is based on the tobacco weight the loose-weight snus will have the largest price increase. For a loose weight can with 50 gram the increase will be 5.83 SEK including VAT (about 0.6 EUR). A can of portion-packed snus with 24 gram will be about 2.70 SEK more expensive; this is including VAT (about 0.3 EUR).
In the light of the recent tax increase in January 2007, the new tax proposal was unexpected.
